More than 60 million youth participate in sports annually in the U.S., according to a study by the National Institutes of Health
That number will increase to more than 80 million by 2030
Nearly 20% of U.S. families spend more than $12,000 a year, or $1,000 per month, on youth sports, per child, according to a TD Ameritrade survey of parents between 30 and 60 years old with $25,000in investable assets with kids currently playing youth sports or ones that did.
Kids from lower-income homes face increasing barriers to participation. While inactivity rates for the overall population are down, most gains are among kids from upper-income homes who can better afford the growing fees associated with youth sports.
How you can participate in Sports Angels
If your team or coach is a Sports Angels Partner you can ask for information on how to participate. We encourage players and their families to participate in fundraising activities throughout the year to raise funds in their Sports Angels account and then transfer to pay their sports fees. Sports Angels holds periodic workshops and provides tools to assist players and families in developing individual fundraising goals and a plan to make participation in youth sports more affordable.
